Social Support Programme

The Social Support Programme entails psychosocial and livelihoods support; social work and community outreach; and awareness creation and building community capacity. Psychosocial support includes trauma counseling, marital counseling and parent-child reconciliation, family counseling and pre-teen and teen counseling, and providing guidance to at-risk adolescents, especially girls who are survivors of, or who are vulnerable to GBV.

Awareness creation on children’s, women’s and human rights, is undertaken as a GBV prevention strategy, that also has the aim of sensitizing the public in general on GBV response, as a strategy and to help surmount the challenge of non-reporting of GBV, and to increase social acceptability of women reporting abuse.

Community education and outreach is undertaken under the Social Support Programme - dissemination of IEC material in communities; facilitation of capacity building workshops and seminars that addressed gender, gender violence, human rights - with special focus - use of arts in advocacy, a strategy that allows for interaction with audiences, thus generating feedback, especially on behavior, attitude and practices.
